About Me

Hi there! I'm Maria Julia Pinheiro, but you can call me Maju. I’m an art student with a passion for design, and I’m planning to pursue architecture in the future. Growing up, my mom's artistic influence played a big role in shaping who I am today. I’d watch her design clothes for her store, create beautiful plates, and decorate our home, her creativity sparked something in me that I continue to carry with me in everything I create.
One of my main inspirations is Japanese culture. I’ve always been fascinated by it, and my love for the culture even led me to throw Japanese-themed parties as a child. This deep connection inspired me to create a piece featuring a little cat, one that I have at home.
I’m drawn to textiles and textured art because it offers an abstract quality that speaks to me, yet it also has the power to evoke emotions in others. I find it exciting that people can relate to the pieces in different ways. For instance, the pink circle piece I created explores illusion, when you look at it too long, it almost makes you dizzy, as if the piece has layers and depth. On the other hand, my blue, white, and green landscape-inspired piece reminds me of Tarsila do Amaral's works, which I find peaceful and pleasing to the eye.
In my work, I love experimenting with different techniques, especially manual skills using threads. For one of my recent pieces, I decided to create a blue circular design that incorporates layers and perspectives, challenging me to push my skills further. Each piece I create is a journey of testing and exploring new ideas, and I’m so excited to share these with you.
